Day One of Symposium

Today was a wonderful day for the teachers in attendance.  Started the day with a presentation from D'Yuanna Allen from the Metro Davidson County Health Department.  D'Yuanna shared ideas with teachers on how to work with their local health departments as well as careers in Public Health Services.

The second session was Technology in the Classroom.  Teachers shared ideas how they use technology in the classroom. More on this tomorrow.

Afternoon sessions included one session by Rebecca Calfee EMT-P on emergency medical service skills from HOSA EMT competition of Traction.  Participants praticed applying different types of traction splints.

Another Session was Physical Therapy Crutch Walking.  Gail Bursch and Cara Nash of Belmont University allowed teachers the opportunity to practice crutch walking and how to teach these skills to their students.

Karen Feltner, Roane State Community College conducted a session on how to teach Medical Terminology in an effective and innovative method.

The fourth session was Strategies in the Classroom.  This session was lead by State Consultant Sheila Carlton and allowed teachers the opportunity to share teaching strategies.  These Strategies will be in a separate blog entry.
